Apple Brownies

IMG_3593

These Apple Brownies are worth every minute spent baking.  They are delicious and fill the house with the scent of apples and spice.   Everyone loves the taste.  Light brown and crunchy on the outside while extremely moist inside – and packed with flavor throughout.

Awesome alone cold or warm. For a spectacular treat, serve warm with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of caramel syrup.

These are instructions for a 9 x 13 pan, but it can easily be cut in half for an 8 x 8 pan size.

  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 large cooking apples (I use Granny Smith) – peeled, cored & diced
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla

Cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg.  Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon & nutmeg. Stir until combined.

Peel, core and dice the apples. I purchased an apple peeler, corer, slicer and would never be without one in the house! You don’t need one, but they sure are handy if you bake with a lot of apples.

Add the apples, chopped walnuts, & vanilla. Mix to combine.

Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 30 to 33 minutes at 350.

Cool in pan on wire rack. Slice into squares.  ENJOY!
